We get it, working with an interior designer can feel like a big step. Whether you’re renovating your forever home or refreshing a single room, it’s normal to have questions. At Living Oak Interior Design, we believe in transparency, collaboration, and making design a stress-free, exciting experience. Below are some of the most common questions we get from clients, answered honestly.

1. What does an interior designer actually do?
An interior designer does far more than pick paint colors and throw pillows. We manage the entire design process, from layout planning, color palettes, and material sourcing, to working with contractors on specifications, budgeting, and making sure every detail aligns with your vision. We’re here to turn ideas into reality while protecting your time, sanity, and investment.

2. How involved will I be in the process?
As involved as you want to be! Some clients love reviewing mood boards and making style choices, while others prefer a more hands-off approach. Either way, we keep you informed at key points and guide you through decisions, ensuring your space reflects you and your needs.

3. Do I need a big budget to work with a designer?
Not at all. While we work on high-end custom designs, we also love helping clients make the most of any budget. Our job is to bring clarity to where your money is best spent and avoid costly mistakes. Good design isn’t about how much you spend; it’s about making smart, intentional choices.

4. How long does the design process take?
It depends on the scope. A single-room refresh might take a few weeks, while a full-home renovation or new build could take several months or even years. During our consultation, we’ll provide a timeline tailored to your project and keep things on track from start to finish.

5. Can you work with what I already have?
Absolutely! We love blending the old with the new. Whether it’s a beloved heirloom, vintage furniture, or artwork, we can design around existing pieces to create a cohesive, updated look that still feels like home.

6. What happens if I change my mind mid-project?
Design is a journey, and it’s okay to pivot. We build flexibility into our process and always keep communication open. If changes happen, we’ll explain any impact on the timeline or budget and help you move forward with confidence.

7. Why should I hire a designer instead of doing it myself?
Pinterest is helpful to pull together ideas, but execution is everything. We help you avoid decision fatigue, costly mistakes, and delays. With a trained eye, vetted resources, and experience managing timelines and tradespeople, we bring your vision to life efficiently and beautifully.

8. How do you figure out my style? What if I don’t know it myself?
That’s completely normal! Many clients aren’t sure how to define their style, and that’s okay. At the beginning of our process, we send out a comprehensive client questionnaire that helps us uncover your aesthetic preferences. It gives us both a great starting point and sparks helpful conversations. You don’t need to have it all figured out; we’ll discover it together!

9. Will you handle purchasing and deliveries?
Yes! We manage the ordering, tracking, and coordination of all furniture, finishes, and decor, so you don’t have to chase down delayed shipments or missing parts. For full renovations, we send all furnishings to a receiving warehouse so that everything can be delivered on one day, and is stored safely until then. We also handle installations and ensure everything arrives as expected and in perfect condition.

10. What makes Living Oak Interior Design different?
We combine professionalism with personalization. You’re not just another project to us. We genuinely care about your home, your experience, and the outcome. With our transparent process, creative solutions, and deep network of resources, we make good design approachable and fun.
